ABOUT THE BRAND

ohne

YOU’RE A HUMAN WITH A UTERUS, EVERYDAY

Our Story

ohne is the lovechild of leah and nikki (that’s us, with all the hair and obsession with leopard-print), best friends who met at uni in 2010. having never planned on going into business together, ohne was the product of one too many wine-fuelled rants about the mainstream period product industry and letting ourselves get carried away with ideas for the period brand of our dreams.

once we realised that dream-brand wasn’t just gonna drop from the sky, we knew we had to create it ourselves.

we started off with the simple idea that everyone should be able to manage their period however they want, fitting around their lives, schedule, and bloody needs. because every period is different… And so is every cycle. we know that taking the time to put you and your body first shouldn’t stop when your period does. we’re here to help you learn about your body, understand your hormones, and focus on your whole cycle, because you’re a human with a uterus every day – not just the days you’re bleeding from your vagina.

cbd full-spectrum extract comes from the flowers of the hemp cannabis sativa plant – yup, the same plant as marijuana. don’t worry though, cbd (or cannabidiol) is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis and thc is the only one of these that is psychoactive. to get technical for a second, our cbd is extracted using a supercritical co2 extraction process. this allows a wide spectrum of cannabinoids to be safely stripped from the plant – independent of the parts that get you high.

there’s a system in the human body called the endocannabinoid system, which basically supports every important function we’ve got. it helps to regulate everything from pain and mood to things like appetite and sleep. cannabinoids such as cbd work just like the endogenous cannabinoids naturally made by the human body, which evoke cannabinoid receptors found in various systems such as the gut, skin cells, reproductive organs, and the brain, helping to promote natural balance and skin healing.

cbd has been researched to have a relaxant and analgesic effects which have been known to help relax the muscles. cbd is also an adaptogen, which is a term used to describe plants and herbs that are capable of supporting your adrenal system to balance your hormones and help manage your stress levels. they help speed up or slow down the release of stress hormones, depending on what your body needs at a given time.

all ohne cbd products are gluten free, 100% vegan, and never (ever) tested on animals.

nope! cbd is the non-psychoactive part of the cannabis plant. so, it will not get you high.

thc is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, and is illegal in the uk. however, our cbd is extracted from low thc <0.1% hemp cannabis plants – which means our product only contains trace elements of thc, keeping in line with uk legal requirements.

in simple terms, period pain is the shedding of the uterus lining. in order to accomplish this, the uterus muscles contract aggressively to compress the blood vessels lining the womb, preventing oxygen from reaching the uterus. in the uterus there are tissues which release chemicals that trigger pain pain when they’re deprived of oxygen. cbd has been found to have a relaxant and analgesic effects which have been known to help relax the muscles. if we can get those uterus muscles to chill out a bit – say, by using a few cheeky drops of holy cramp – the ‘cramping’ we experience as a result is going to be significantly reduced.

the essential oils in holy cramp not only have a bunch of therapeutic & healing properties in their own right, they are also known to work in conjunction with the cbd to help bind and enhance the overall effect it has on the cannabinoid receptors found all over the body.

the reproductive hormones naturally fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle, but extraneous factors and medical conditions can all have an effect on your hormone production and levels. cbd is an adaptogen which, put simply, is a term used to describe plants and herbs that are capable of supporting your adrenal system to balance your hormones and help manage your stress levels. they help speed up or slow down the release of certain hormones, depending on what your body needs at a given time. cbd can help maintain balanced levels of the reproductive and sex hormones throughout the entire menstrual cycle.

this product contains nuts (coconuts. are they a ‘real’ nut? the fda reckons so, anyway).

we love yours, hormonally and we’re sure you will too, but be careful who you’re sharing it with – it’s not for kids, so keep it out of their reach. this product is a food supplement, formulated for adults. seek medical advice if pregnant, breastfeeding or taking any medication. avoid contact with eyes. this product is not intended to treat, cure or prevent any disease.

yes, but some of the ingredients such as dong quai may not work quite as effectively. overall, the formulation will still help alleviate period pain, congestion, lethargy and emotional swings.

yin & tonic contains a carefully balanced formulation of six herbs with additional vitamins designed to support and tone the reproductive system.

ginger stimulates the circulation, ensuring adequate blood supply to the reproductive organs, producing an overall warming effect; it also helps to alleviate feelings of nausea.

calendula has a well-known affinity with the female reproductive system; it can help regulate menstruation and alleviate breast congestion and cramping. its astringent properties can reduce uterine congestion and excessive bleeding.

fenugreek is a very nutritive spice, and clinical trials have shown that it can alleviate period pain and associated headache, nausea and lethargy.

cramp bark, as its name suggests, is an antispasmodic herb that is excellent at reducing the cramping of uterine smooth muscle.

motherwort helps relieve muscular and nervous tension, alleviating painful menstruation and reducing anxiety.

dong quai, or chinese angelica, is a reproductive tonic and hormone regulator and helps to relax an over-contracted uterus and reduce pelvic congestion and pain. alongside the motherwort, it will also help to improve mood.

it will encourage the relaxation of the smooth muscle of the uterus, alleviating muscle spasm and cramps, and will stimulate the circulation, reducing congestion and producing an overall warming and calming effect.
